What To Expect In Play Therapy
You Are in the Right Place
If you are here, you may be worried about your child. Maybe you’ve noticed big emotions, behavior changes, anxiety, anger, or withdrawal. You might be navigating struggles at school or home, grief after the loss of a loved one or pet, or difficulty adjusting to family changes such as divorce, separation, moving, or new family dynamics. Most parents arrive feeling unsure or overwhelmed. That is completely normal. Play therapy looks different from traditional counseling, and understanding the process helps families feel confident taking the next step.
What is Child-Centered Play Therapy?
Children do not communicate the way adults do.
Adults talk.
Children play.
In Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), play becomes your child’s natural way of expressing thoughts, feelings, and experiences they may not yet have words for.
This approach helps children process difficult emotions, including grief, loss, and life transitions, in a way that feels safe and developmentally appropriate.
what happens in a typical session?
Most children attend 50-minute weekly sessions.
Consistency matters. Emotional growth happens through repeated experiences of safety, understanding, and connection.
